Paul Kaul
Cello

1875–1951

He served his apprenticeship at Thibouville-Lamy, worked from 1900 to 1905 with Silvestre & Maucotel in Paris, and then for Vuillemin Didion in Nantes. He settled in that city in 1907, where he met Dr. Chenantais and worked under his direction until 1913. In 1910, he presented a cello built in collaboration, which won against the Stradivarius (Davidoff), and in 1912 a violin that won against the Kreutzer.

In 1919, he created a violin model that he nicknamed Capet, which that artist himself played. He again won the prize at the Brussels tone competition in 1930. Fine violin making in the Italian school tradition. Good varnish ranging from tawny gold to reddish-brown. Since 1928, Kaul had moved his workshop and shop to 130 Boulevard Brune in Paris.
