Paul Serdet was born in Mirecourt in 1858 and was a pupil of Derazey and Gaillard. He later worked with H. C. Silvestre in Lyon from 1877 onward. He subsequently settled in Paris, where he was awarded a medal at the 1900 Universal Exhibition. His work is fine and highly esteemed violin making, based on the models of J. Guarneri and Stradivari, with a fine oil varnish ranging from reddish-brown to orange-red. He was also a distinguished repairer. This violin maker died in Paris on 21 June 1934.
